The Inception Of Taizi
Where It All Began
My brother and I grew up content with what we had, but we never stopped looking beyond the bowl toward the pot. That quiet hunger for something greater became the seed of an idea.
In 2007, the spark of Taizi was conceived in a Reunion.
In 2009, a company was incorporated.
And by 2013, after years of refining, dreaming, and persevering, a creation finally took shape — not born from ambition alone, but from reverence, curiosity, and love.
Our journey began in Taiwan, where the legendary Kinmen Kaoliang stirred a deep connection to heritage, strength, and craftsmanship.
We were inspired by the spirit of King Jing of Mongolia and ignited by the story of 42 Below Vodka, a reminder that world-class spirits could rise from unexpected corners of the globe. Geoff Ross believed in the purity of New Zealand’s water, and his story inspired us to believe that we too could create something extraordinary.
This fusion of ancestry, identity, and aspiration became the direction for Taizi.
We started with the purest artesian water from the Southern Alps and grains sourced from the Southern Hemisphere. We carried the wisdom of master calligraphers, whose strokes gave our name life, and worked with French designers to craft a bottle worthy of the story it held.
Our 1850s copper still, steeped in centuries of distilling craftsmanship, met millennia of Chinese tradition in a single breath of vapor and flame.
And when the liquid finally emerged — clear, light, and fragrant — we gave it the hue of imperial violet, the color of nobility, spirituality, and the final arc of the rainbow.
Thus, Taizi took form: a creation where ancient wisdom and modern artistry found harmony, and where aspiration became achievement.
Our 58% Light Fragrance baijiu is not merely a spirit.
It represents the place where worlds meet.
A stepping stone for the West.
A new dawn for the East.
We believe every human heart carries honor and glory, gifted by the Creator along with an eternal longing for perfection and immortality. It is this belief that we distilled into every drop of Taizi.
So if you wish to taste this new world, come to Aotearoa, the Land of the Long White Cloud, where the sun first rises upon the West, and where the Crown Prince of Spirits was born.
